SYFC and FPS

Well, let me describe the SYFC(Singapore Youth Flying Club) course and FPS (Future Problem Solving Competition) in detail. First up, SYFC!

The first day of SYFC was really boring. We had lectures on the physics of flight, the guy taking care of us cracked lame jokes, and Mr Chan Chee Kiong was repeatedly hailed as Kieng Wee's father (because they look kinda alike).

Second day was a.w.e.s.o.m.e. The biggest highlight was the joyride in the Piper Warrior II. As mentioned before, it was build for 2 pilots and 2 passengers. Well, Sufyan and Kieng Wee didn't want to sit at the front, so i went. We had to put on these headphone thingums, so as to have radio contact with each other. Anyway, our instructor was a nice guy called Siva. He was also rather cheeky haha. At 5000 feet above the ground, he suddenly turned to me and asked me to take the wheel. I was taken aback, but did it anyway. The plane's controls are very smooth, throttle controls speed, the wheel controls the flight, vertical, horizontal included. Then I proceeded to almost barrel roll the plane before Sufyan and Kieng Wee shouted at me.

But later Mr Siva asked Kieng Wee, "Where do you want to go?". And he said "Down." The plane suddenly plunged straight down, giving all of us a huge shock. You know the feeling you get when you are in a rollercoaster and it suddenly dips down? Well, this was the authentic experience of free falling. Then he immediately forced the plane to climb up drastically. I felt like a hand was squeezing my head. He continued this with different variations, sometimes barrel rolling down or spinning up. The whole thing was really fun, could see the whole of Singapore and important landmarks like the Causeway, which IMO isn't even a landmark.

Highlight of the third day would have to be the Falcon 4.0 program LAN. Yup thats right, it was some fighter plane simulation game with a joystick, and we were LANNING. I'm pretty good at the game, was a lone wolf vs all the people who had teams, which IMO made it easier.

Because 1. See people just shoot lah. No need think if he is your teammate. 2. Feel more shuang.

And I was leading the points race up to 70! I was in Team USA soloing, had 34 points, and second was Jerry's team with Wen Zheng and Dhivian, scoring 25 points. Sufyan and Kieng Wee+ Christopher Matthews were lingering at about 10+ points I think. As the game went on, I reached 51 points while Jerry's team were 40 points. Then I got Disconnected. My points went to 0. NOOOOOO.

But seriously, I think Jerry was the best player.

Basically, you may ask, why are they giving us the opportunity to go to Skeletar's WestCamp? (Yes wtf that is where SYFC is). They hope that we will become pilots for Singapore. The pros?
The cons? I'l briefly discuss it.

Pros
1. You just have to pay $70 to get a license for private flying. Usually a license costs like 10k.
2. When you get the license you get $500. Cash. Sweet.
3. As long as you are a pilot, there WILL be at least 1 scholarship for universities, be it local or overseas.
4. You can tell people "Hey i'm a pilot!"
5. Instead of going for Army, you join the flying division of the Singapore Army. Cant remember the name.

Cons
1. You have to spend 10 years working for the Air Force.
2. Flying takes up A LOT of time. Especially in JC.

So yeah. Anybody interested?

FPS competition was this morning. Which made me wake up early again. Lucky my dad was fetching me there, or i would have to wake up even earlier.

So basically, last friday to sunday i slept really little, because it was npcc camp. Monday saw me waking up slightly early to go to school. Went back home at night after FPS training. Tuesday was a break. Wednesday to Friday was me waking up early for the course again. Saturday, wake up early to go RGS.

So yeah, the Competition was held at RGS. There were a lot of schools competing. When I first reached there i was like the only RI guy there haha, in a crowd of RGS, Chung Cheng, HCI, ASCI etc. Soon Jon Ed and Ryan Tan (softballer) came. Then Zaki. Then Miss Kuo. And the rest of the RI guys.

We had to go to some hall for a real long time. They kept looping the clips of winners at FPS, and the music was extremely forgettable. Look at me, i dun even remember anything about it. Then surprisingly they told us to start greeting one another. So me and Nigel turned around to greet the girls behind us while Jon Ed and Zaki just stoned at looked at each other. Eh guys, why so anti-social?

The girls told us that their teacher told them about the competition one week before. Tough Luck. We just wished them good luck, and the competition soon began. The competition rules were awesome. We could bring one calculator, dunno wth for, pencil cases and a dictionary- theasaures. And the invigilator was outside the room. So when we were bored, we could run around the classoom, or lie on tables. It was fun.

Basically, the first half was kinda easy. Then we hit a stumbling block in the form of solutions. However, with some effort we pushed through it, completing the booklet just in time. Well, we left 1 peoblem empty and 2 solutions empty, but it was already very commendable considering that this was our best run.

Me and Zaki went to a bus stop near RGS. Then there were a few guys, dunno what school who thought they were very funny. When there were no cars, they ran onto the bus lane and started making hithiking signs like a thumbs up and humping motions. Wtf man. Apparently they were trying to get some girls from their school to laugh. Then they say what want to walk to Orchard. But they got into the next bus that came. Empty vessels make the most noise.

The subsequent buses were all packed, so me and Zaki walked to Orchard MRT. Then took a copy of Weekend Today, and went home.

When I went home I just collapsed. Too tired already. Slept for 2 hours plus. When I woke up, my 4 ulcers reminded me how much pain i was in. Seriously, My lips are dam swollen. Like I said to Nigel, when i was eating dinner last night, as the food went in saliva slobbered out. It was that painful eating.

See you guys soon.
